Award 2020

What are publications and what do they stand for?

Artists and publishers from all over the world were invited to submit their production. Now, we welcome everybody to vote online for their favorite until November 22. The 3 publications with the most votes will receive a cash prize of CHF 500 each to support their work.

2020 has been a rollercoaster, bringing to the forefront topics of equality, justice, colonialism, capitalism, commoning, care, fear, death, etc. With this first VOLUMES award we would like to highlight and support some of the production and producers of 2020, most especially artists and publishers with small means, making meaningful and selfless work.

Toilatepaper Magazine 00 - The last Issue

Toilatepaper is an artists' magazine created and produced by ©Ovid and (T) and it was born out of a shared passion for sheets. The magazine contains no text (nor pictures). Each sheet springs from a roll of toilet paper, simple, and through a complex orchestration of textures it becomes the materialization of the artists' mental outbursts. Since the material for further editions is gone in March 2020, Toilatepaper has created a world that displays a heavenly state, fundamental to ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination. It combines the vernacular of a commercial toilet paper offer with twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery. The result is a publication that is itself a work of art which, through its accessible form as a magazine, and through its wide distribution, challenges the limits of the contemporary art economy.
